What are „cookies”?
They are small text files stored on users’ terminal devices (computers, smartphones, tablets, etc.) designated for using web pages. These files make it possible to recognize a user’s device and they store a variety of information and settings that are unique to a given web page. Cookies are most frequently used to align the appearance and content of web pages to a user’s preferences and facilitate the usage of web pages. They are also used to create anonymous statistics to help analyze web site traffic and understand how users use web sites in order to be able to develop and enhance www pages.
Cookies may be temporary files that are stored on a user’s device until the time of exiting a web site or turning off the web browser or they may stay on a user’s device for a period specified in the parameters of these files or until the moment the user deletes them manually.
The default setting is for web browsers to permit the loading of cookies on terminal devices. These settings may be modified in such a way so as to block the automatic handling of cookies in a web browser’s settings or to report every instance when they are transmitted to a user’s device. Detailed information about the possibilities and methods of handling cookies is available in the web browser’s settings. Curtailing the usage of cookies may impede the usage of some of the functions offered by a web page.
